Good Afternoon everyone, Respected Prof. Rupaban Subadar, Dean-in-Charge, SOT, Prof. H. K Mishra, Chairman and Director, of UGC-MMTTC, Dr. Juwesh Binong, Coordinator of Refresher Course, Dr. S. K. Dutta, Dr. Kuheli Biswas Das, Dr. Q. Kharbuli, technical staff of MMTTC, and Valued Participants,

It is a profound honor to stand before you today as the Guest of Honour at the valedictory function of this transformative two-week Refresher Course in Electronics and Communication, with a special focus on  AI Solutions for a sustainable and Inclusive Future, organized by the UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre at North-Eastern Hill University. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Prof. H.K. Mishra, Chairman and Director of UGC-MMTTC, Prof. Md. Iftekhar Hussain, Dean of the School of Technology, Prof. Rupaban Subadar, Dean-in-Charge and Chief Guest of today’s function,  Dr. Juwesh Binong, Dr. S.K. Dutta, Dr. Q. Kharbuli, Dr. Kuheli Bisaswa Das, and the dedicated technical staff for their tireless efforts in making this program a resounding success.

As we gather to celebrate the culmination of this enriching journey, I am filled with pride and optimism. Over the past two weeks, from May 20 to June 2, 2025, you, the participants, have immersed yourselves in a diverse and forward-thinking curriculum, exploring topics ranging from the nuts and bolts of Machine Learning and Deep Learning to AI’s applications in education, healthcare, climate change, cultural preservation, and ethics. You’ve engaged with distinguished speakers like Prof. S.M. Hazarika, Dr. Snehashis Banerji, Prof. Renu Yadav, Dr. Mrutyunjaya Mishra, and many others who have shared their expertise on transformative subjects like AI-powered personalized learning, natural language processing for inclusion, and smart infrastructure. This multidisciplinary approach, open to all disciplines, reflects the inclusive spirit of this course and the boundless potential of AI to shape a better future.

I extend my deepest appreciation on behalf of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering to Dr Juwesh Binong our exceptional coordinator. Your vision and dedication, evident from the meticulous planning since our departmental meeting on February 7, 2025, have brought us to this moment of celebration. Your leadership has ensured that this course not only met but exceeded our expectations.

This refresher course aligns with our department’s mission to be a beacon of excellence in engineering education and research, particularly for the North-East. Our work in areas like AI, speech signal processing, Wireless and Microwave Communication, Silicon Photonics/Photonic Integrated Circuits, and fintech, supported by projects worth over 5 crores and patent, underscores our commitment to innovation. The knowledge shared in this course—whether it was Python programming, AI in social sciences, or climate-smart farming—equips you to carry forward this spirit of innovation into your classrooms and communities.

To all participants, both here and joining us online from across India, I commend your enthusiasm and diversity of thought. You’ve explored how AI can foster equity in education, preserve indigenous languages, enhance healthcare, and address climate challenges. You’ve delved into ethical considerations, from AI governance to its role in democracy, ensuring that technology serves humanity responsibly. The connections you’ve forged and the ideas you’ve shared will resonate far beyond these two weeks. I encourage you to take this knowledge back to your institutions, inspire your students, and build networks that drive meaningful change.

As we close this chapter, let us reflect on the responsibility that comes with this knowledge. AI is a powerful tool, but its true impact lies in how we wield it—for inclusion, sustainability, and societal good. I am confident that you will lead this charge, creating a ripple effect that strengthens our nation and beyond.

Once again, I thank the UGC-MMTTC, NEHU, for hosting this visionary program, and I congratulate every participant for your commitment to learning and growth. Let us continue this journey of innovation and collaboration, shaping a brighter, more inclusive future together. Thank you, and have a nice time.
