Good Morning Everyone! Respected
Dean, School of Technology, Head of Department of IT, BME, ENE, BSSS, and Prof.
Goutam Saha, colleagues in the School of Technology, ladies and gentlemen.
Today, we come together to honor
and bid farewell to an exceptional educator and leader, Prof. Goutam Saha, who
will be retiring on the 31st of October 2024. As the Head of the Department of
Electronics and Communication Engineering, I feel privileged to speak about his
profound contributions, not only to the Department of Information Technology
but also to our university as a whole.
Prof. Goutam Saha has served in
various pivotal roles, including being the ex-Head of the Department of
Information Technology, the ex-Dean of the School of Technology, and a former
member of the Executive Council—the highest decision-making body of our
university. His presence in these positions has been crucial in steering the
university upward. Through his intelligence, vision, and leadership, he played
an instrumental role in shaping key decisions that positively impacted our
university’s growth and direction.
One of the most remarkable
aspects of Prof. Saha is his humility and down-to-earth nature. He is a
soft-spoken, approachable, and accommodating person who treats everyone with
respect. You could meet him without hesitation, and that open, friendly nature
earned him support from every corner of the university. Whether it was his
fellow faculty members, students, or staff, people have always been willing to
stand by him because of the trust and respect he fostered.
I fondly remember a time when our
department faced a challenge in finding someone to teach the specialized
subject of Low Power VLSI. Without a second thought, Prof. Saha stepped up to
assist our M.Tech and Ph.D. scholars, demonstrating his willingness to go above
and beyond for the benefit of the students. His intelligence and generosity in
sharing his expertise have left a lasting impact on our department.
Additionally, when Prof. Saha
joined the Department of Information Technology, we recommended him as the
Nodal Officer for the prestigious Visvesvaraya Ph.D. Scheme. The university
promptly accepted this recommendation, though in a humorous twist, they
initially notified him as the Nodal Officer on behalf of the Department of ECE!
This just goes to show how deeply connected and associated he has been with our
department. Of course, we had that corrected, but it highlights the bond we
share.
As the Dean of the School of
Technology, Prof. Saha’s leadership was instrumental in making significant
strides for the school. His tenure was marked by thoughtful and inclusive
decision-making, always considering the best interests of students, faculty,
and the university at large. His contribution to moving the university forward,
both as Dean and as a member of the Executive Council, has been invaluable.
On behalf of the faculty, office,
and technical staff of the Department of ECE, I would like to extend our
deepest gratitude to Prof. Goutam Saha for his unwavering support, leadership,
and friendship over the years. We wish him a fulfilling, healthy, and joyous
post-retirement life. His legacy will continue to inspire all of us.
Thank you.
